San Jose, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's golf team finished off the San Jose State Spartan Invitational today, finishing 12th in the field of 15, but one spot ahead of their 13th ranking in the tournament.

"We were missing our best player, Miki Ueoka, and that makes a difference," said head coach Polly Schulze. "But we finished ahead of our ranking, so that is a positive."

Katie Sharpe finished with a final round of 81 and finished at +20. Corey Utsurogi had the best round of the day for the Broncos with an 80. She finished just one stroke behind Sharpe at +21.

Next in scoring for the Broncos was Jamie Nonake, whose 82 gave her a score of +24 for the tournament. The final scorer for Santa Clara was Jenny Nelson who shot an 85 and ended up at +29 in the three-day event.

Hillaire Fouts closed things out for the Broncos as she tied Nonaka for the day with a score of 82. Fouts finished off her tournament at +36.

"We need to learn to start and finish strong," said Schulze. The team will look to follow that philosophy next week at the UCSC Invitational in Santa Cruz.
