Women's Crew Wraps Up First Weekend of the Season
March 10, 2008
Santa Clara, Calif. -- Santa Clara women's crew just finished up their first weekend of the season. They started off Saturday in their annual race against Sacramento State for the Jim Farwell Cup, which goes to the team that wins the varsity eight race. Sac State has won the cup since its inception five years ago. This year was no different as Sacramento State swept the events. The highlight for Santa Clara came in the women's novice eight. It was a close battle the entire way, with the margin of victory at the finish line being less than a bow ball. On Sunday, Santa Clara traveled to the Port of Sacramento for the Davis Invitational Rowing Tournament (D.I.R.T.). In the women's varsity eight race, Santa Clara lined up with U.C. Davis and U.C. Santa Barbara. Davis walked out to an early lead and powered down the race course for an easy victory. Santa Clara and U.C. Santa Barbara battled the first 1000 meters of the race before Santa Clara took the lead for good. Next up for the Broncos will be the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday, March 15.
